De StingRay werd voor het eerst geïntroduceerd in 1976 en is vereerd als een van de meest iconische basgitaren in de geschiedenis. De StingRay was de eerste productiebas van vier snaren met ingebouwde actieve equalisatie. De StingRay, het vlaggenschip van de Music Man lijn, is hetzelfde als zo'n veertig jaar geleden, met een solide roadworthy constructie, een massieve brug van gehard staal, een elegante ovale slagplaat, 3 + 1 tuning keyconfiguratie en de immer populaire Music Man humbucker. Dit alles bij elkaar zorgt voor een look, feel en geluid die opvallend onmiskenbaar zijn.
